We wholeheartedly believe we go further together and are proud to have strengthening sector organisations as a specific priority within our 2024-2028 Strategic Plan.
Throughout 2024-2028, we will work with sector organisations to support strengthening their organisational foundations across the areas of governance, leadership, people and culture, insights and evaluation, finance and technology. We are also committed to supporting the sector’s contribution to Te Tāruke-ā-Tāwhiri: Tāmaki Makaurau’s Climate Plan 2030.
Our city has the highest number of diverse communities, giving us an advantage to lead the country in how to enable New Zealand’s diverse communities to participate in quality opportunities. If every person in our city has the opportunity to participate in physical activity, we are closer to achieving our long-term goal strategic goal.
Aktive works with the sport and recreation sector to help workforce capability be more inclusive of diverse communities and members such as the rainbow community, embed accessible and inclusive practices in everyday work, and foster an inclusive organisational culture.
We support specialist disability sector organisations where appropriate, and have also developed a comprehensive Inclusion Training Course covering a number of aspects to enhance sector understanding.

Good governance is a foundational component of any healthy organisation. It helps to improve the performance of an organisation, and with good governors, it can also help ensure stability and productivity, as well as unlock opportunities.
In the sport and physical activity sector, the governance part of the system is largely made up of enthusiastic and passionate volunteers, with many seeking to enhance their governance knowledge and skills.
Aktive has a number of initiatives that can support these individuals to develop their skills, build on the skills they have and connect with others in similar roles. Our governance initiatives and programmes caters for aspiring governors through to experienced Chairs and everyone in between.
If you are on a Board of a sport or recreation organisation and you’d like to know more about how Aktive can support you or your Board/committee, please contact us.

If you’re looking for support to engage with your community/membership or gathering insights, Aktive can assist in a number of ways, including gaining community/membership insights, population analysis and geographical mapping, and custom evaluation frameworks and monitoring of project/programme impact.
Our team can also provide strategic planning support, as well as data visualisation and presentations for key stakeholders. For more information, please contact us.
In today’s fast-paced, time-poor world, organisations often have a lot on their plate. This can mean that covering all the necessary tasks needed to reach their goals can be a stretch at times.
At Aktive, our team of bookkeepers and accountants have vast experience in the commercial, not-for-profit and sport sectors. They can assist with a wide range of bookkeeping, accounting and budgeting disciplines, manage back-office tasks to free up resources, and offer flexible service delivery options.
With this support and more, partnering with Aktive can realise a number of benefits for organisations seeking financial efficiency and sustainability. To find out more, please contact us.
Integrity in sport means that participants, coaches, officials, whānau, friends, supporters and fans can participate in sport and physical activity in the knowledge that they are in a safe, inclusive, and equitable environment.
When we think of integrity, other words come to mind like fairness, inclusivity, honesty, trust, ethics, morals, respect, but integrity in the sporting context is more than that.
On the field, or playground, it can look like playing fair, respecting your opposition, sharing positive messages with your teammates, helping someone if they are hurt and showing positive sportspersonship. It also encompasses member protection and safeguarding, preventing competition manipulation as well as anti-doping.
As sector advocates, we are working alongside our partners to ensure that integrity in sport is understood, and support is provided as needed.
We encourage everyone in the sector to familiarise themselves with the Sport Integrity Commission which provides a wealth of information and resources.
